Ravages (BB, OVP)
Wind blows west to east,
ocean to mountains,
rippling the waves of the air
with the steady beat
of the ray’s kite wings,
and we, in-between, watch helplessly,
as the wild plum trees in the hedge
clutch their white pearls,
arms reaching out
after their stolen treasure.
The old man of the lake rises now and then.
Shrouded in greenery, half kneeling hand pointing.
As if to ward you away from its torturous depths.
Legend has it he guards unknown treasures.
Once a man of great wealth who fell from grace.
Took the life of his wife and lover by mistake,
and interned them at the bottom of the lake.
The lake he now guards for eternity.
The stand of trees surrounding the mere.
are said to be his loyal household.
Ever in his service, ever showing their devotion.
If you look closely he is pointing the way.

In a man-made garden,
frozen trees below a hovering kite,
much like a bird of prey,
add your Godzilla tears here —
In the fabric of a performance,
you set the dark talking.

Inspired by all 4 images
The kite reflected in her eyes,
black on green,
the perfect day before the rest,
the remembered spring of
pear blossoms and laughter
that echoed over meadows
the color of scallions and parsley,
the lilac scent in the air.
The kite was a fledgling
pushed untethered from the nest,
and like an eagle, it caught the thermals
to glide high out of sight. While we were sad
to lose it–but happy it was free.

Those two old trees in the garden
a bit like us love.
Tough, dry, old bark,
battered day in day out
by the winds, the cold, the heat.
Together, rooted and nourished
by each other,
and still so much in love
after all these years.
and we’re blossoming again.
Lovely white blossom,
my beautiful bride in her wedding dress
here by my side,
Peaceful pond, tall trees
create deep surface shadows;
conceal wary fish
The boy’s kite swirls
in the growing April gale.
Dipping and rising,
tail dragging behind, a sliver
of red almost invisible
as the string lengthens.
The raptor soars above the Ridgeway
catching the currents, eyes trained
on the ground below. An ancient
sight, timeless, a vision in dark red,
a nightmare waiting to pounce.

is an Indian-Australian painter, poet, and improv pianist. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting and exhibiting for over 20 years. Born on the 26th of July, 2007, in Islamabad , Sara Fatima is a Pakistani of Kashmiri origin. Gifted by nature with an inborn aesthetic sense, she is passionate about art. It is not just a hobby for her, rather it is a well settled heart and soul, way of life which inspires her to visualize the fine beauty and form in the world around. She has won numerous art competitions at school level. She is a natural artist and has completed the following two Courses : a) Graphic Designing -2020 b) Resin Art Skills -2022 from the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Finishing School, Islamabad Capital Territory Pakistan. This learning has further enhanced her artistic skills . is a writer from Chesterfield in Derbyshire whose ideas are heavily influenced by his background in the local coalfields, where industry and nature lived side by side. His first pamphlet “Heritage” was published in 2019. His poetic influences range from Blake to Owen, Causley to Cooper-Clarke and more recently the idea of imagistic poetry and the work of Spanish poet Miguel Hernandez.
Lynne Jensen Lampe’s
debut collection, Talk Smack to a Hurricane (Ice Floe Press, 2022) concerns mother-daughter relationships, mental illness, and antisemitism. Her poems appear in many journals, including THRUSH, Figure 1, and Yemassee.
