She rose from earth cracked by grief.
Blood in her roots. Flint in her hands.
No one taught her how to fight.
The land itself carved her spine.

She does not wait for permission.
She does not walk with fear.
Her eyes hold the silence before storms.
Her breath smells of fire and soil.

Where she moves, the wind sharpens.
The trees lean in to listen.
Even the river remembers
The sound of her mother’s cry.

She is not flame for warmth.
She is flame for warning.
When she blooms,
It means the war has already begun.

She doesn’t dream. She summons storms.
Her breath ignites the twilight sky.
Roots rise wild from her tangled crown,
A blaze of bloom where birds dare fly.

The mountain stirs beneath her skin.
Each ridge, a scar. Each peak, her flame.
She whispers fire into the wind,
And dares the earth to speak her name.

She carries the forest, fierce and free.
Not to tame, but to awaken.
A thunder girl in a field of gods,
With no fear left to be taken.

Layers of Becoming

She does not announce herself.
She arrives as warmth in the soil,
as the hush before bloom.

She does not build walls.
She becomes the shelter.
Not a house,
but the breath inside it,
the quiet that holds everything.

She watches over what grows,
not with fences,
but with presence.

The rabbit,
the ducklings,
even the smallest stem
lean toward her,
not out of fear,
but knowing.

She holds the water like memory.
Still.
Deep.
Unshaken by surface wind.

This is where strength lives,
not in armor,
but in the soft hands
that never stop holding.

Not in noise,
but in roots that do not let go.

A mother of all things,
even those that do not belong to her,
even the unseen.

This is what it means
to be a woman
who guards with love,
who gives without vanishing,
who stays.

It’s a form of meditation for me and has now become a way for me to find peace and sanity when my world gets too overwhelming, which, as a single mom with a neuro-divergent teen, happens quite often. When it does, I follow John Muir’s quote, “Off into the woods I go to loose my mind and find my soul.”
The results of those trips are  sketches of the forests around me and photos. I work from the photos to create my watercolors and intaglio prints. I hope you enjoy them and can find a place in your home to adopt one or more.

The sun doesn’t rise so much as it arrives. Gently. Without rush.
It brushes the field with a kind of knowing,
as if it remembers each stone, each shadow, each morning breath of the trees.
The land doesn’t speak. Yet everything here listens.
A soft hush holds the space between light and silence.
And in that hush, something inside you settles too.
Not in words. But in belonging.

She Carries the Forest

She carries the forest in her limbs,
a thousand years of hush and howl
threaded through her veins.

Roots stretch wide,
not to claim,
but to cradle.
She lifts the earth gently,
as if it were a child
learning to stand.

The moss leans into her
for comfort.
Leaves whisper stories
only she remembers.

Storms come,
but she does not flinch.
She has weathered worse
and still offers shade
to whatever dares to bloom.

There is no glory in her strength.
Only presence.
Only the quiet vow
to hold what must be held.

She released the architecture of expectation,

By the still pool,
she became
not a woman to be seen,
but a presence to be felt.

Dreams That Never Found a Body

They came in silence,
before the world was named,
hovering in the hollows
between thought and breath.

No blood to warm them,
no hands to hold,
only a flicker
trembling against the dark.

They wandered
through the marrow of clouds,
brushed past unborn stars,
and whispered to the roots of trees.

Some nights
I still feel them,
the weightless ache,
the shadow of a life
that waited,
but was never chosen.

And I wonder
if they miss me,
the way I miss
what I never became.

They are always there.

Too many to count.

Not judges.

Just the ones I left behind
when I became who I had to be.

Some are soft with memory.

for me to speak

It does not call attention,
yet something in it holds the eye.

Colors that once belonged to hands,
now softened by time and sun.
No ceremony surrounds it,
but it has known devotion.

At the foot of the silent one,
it rests.
Unmoving,
but never empty.

The hush of prayers whispered without sound.
The warmth of fingers that once placed each offering.
The weight of longing that never asked to be named.

It is not forgotten.

Silvered wonderment

slipping silently

through starlight

moments.

Blooming in the Dark

It begins in silence,
not in sunlight,
but in the pause between things.

A flower opens slowly,
rooted in shadow,
surrounded by the soft weight of time.

The moon doesn’t shine brightly here.
It watches.
Present.
Still.

Nothing asks to be seen.
Nothing needs to be explained.

And yet,
in this quiet,
something real begins.

Not because the world is ready,
but because it must.

Where Spirits Wait

The air is thick with remembering.
Not yours.
The land’s.

Each leaf holds a name,
spoken once,
then carried into silence.
The gate does not open.
It endures.
It grieves quietly for what passed through
and never returned.

Beneath your skin,
something stirs.
An ache that is not yours
but finds you anyway.

You step closer.
Not in courage.
In longing.
For answers,
for touch,
for the eyes of the unseen
to meet yours
and know.

Here, nothing speaks.
And yet,
you are heard.

Celestial Symmetry

The moon is bound.
It follows its arc
with quiet obedience.
The same silver path,
the same hush,
the same inevitable glow.

I look up,
and beneath that ancient gaze,
a moth quivers toward the light,
unaware
if it seeks solace
or surrender.

And I wonder:
Am I the moon,
held fast by what is known,
or the moth,
reckless in pursuit
of something unnamed?

Perhaps destiny
is a story we tell ourselves
to soften the silence.
Perhaps freedom
is simply the moment
we choose to burn,
despite knowing
it might undo us.

Queen of the Forgotten

She was never crowned.
No ceremony.
No torches.
No bowed heads.
Only the wind,
and the long moan of the earth
carrying names that history spat out.

She stands where empires rotted,
where girls were traded for cattle,
where mothers buried children
with bare hands,
and no one came to write it down.

Her spine remembers.
Not her own pain.
Everyone’s.

The slaves who died nameless.
The lovers who burned in silence.
The midwives stoned at dawn
for knowing herbs too well.

She walks barefoot over rusted chains,
shards of pottery,
bones mistaken for rock.

Her hands are calloused
from touching grief
too old to cry for.

She is not divine.
She is not cursed.
She is what remains
when forgetting fails.

In her silence
live ten thousand stories
never told aloud.
The ordinary brutalities
no monument mourns.

You cannot look at her for long.
She reflects what we bury.

Beneath the moss and shifting leaves, the stones remember.
They do not speak.
They hold the weight of forgotten steps, the echo of a name once shouted across the water.
No one answered.
The stream moved on, as it always does.
Unbothered.
Unchanged.
She stood there once, barefoot, waiting for a sign.
The wind touched her shoulder like a breath, then left.
Nothing happened.
And everything did.

Stillness

The tree stands,
as if waiting for nothing.

Fog clings to the water,
soft as a forgotten breath.

No sound moves here.
Not even memory stirs.

The lake holds its reflection,
like a secret it has never told.

And time,
it forgets to pass.

Water slips through stone
without needing to arrive.

The rocks are not obstacles,
only memory
of something that stayed.

Tree trunks lean inward,
quiet as breath.

There is no noise here,
only the weight
of everything continuing.

Red flowers rise from the edge
like a secret
that never asked to be kept.

You watch,
and the watching becomes
part of the stream.

to be broken.
It stayed soft
to remember how it began.

Rain came,
sometimes too much.
Sun forgot it,
sometimes too long.

But it held shape,
not out of pride,
just the quiet habit
of being whole.

Heart of the Art

We look closely; how do artists

choose colour and technique,

draw on a spirit that lies deep

in the red heart of their psyche?

As seasons change, hues of nature

offer a spectrum to choose from;

greys, blues, black of deep winter,

snow stark against naked trees;

in spring mauve-grey rocks unfold

fern fronds uncurl by brown waters

that gurgle in autumn-tinged golds.

It seems nature provides the artist

a palette from which to compose.

Haunted by Time

I stopped because something felt wrong.
Not loud wrong. Quiet wrong.
The kind that pulls at you without sound.
The house stood at the edge of the woods,
not ruined, not whole,
just still in a way that made the world around it feel like it was holding its breath.

Frost clung to the windows.
I told myself it was empty.
But the longer I looked, the more I felt watched.
Not by someone.
By something that had stayed behind too long.

I walked to the porch.
The wood under my feet didn’t creak.
That silence was worse than noise.
Inside, behind the glass, I saw a chair turned slightly,
like someone had just stood up and never returned.

The air felt thick.
Not cold. Heavy.
As if the house remembered every voice that had once filled it
and had swallowed them whole.

I tried to leave, but my body didn’t move at first.
It was like the house knew me.
Like it had waited for me.
Not because it wanted me
but because it remembered what people do when no one is watching.

There are no ghosts here.
Only memories that never learned how to die.

The Tunnel

She pushed past the vines,
where stone gave way,
not shattered,
but parted,
like it had exhaled after centuries.

They said it was just runoff,
a forgotten drain.
But the air thickened there,
and the red flower bent
as if listening.

She stood still for too long.
She said she could hear breathing.
Not hers,
not ours.
She said there was light inside,
but it felt old.

She stepped in,
barefoot,
slow,
the kind of slow that makes you want to scream.

We waited.
We called her once,
then again.
But the sound curled back, empty.

No scream,
no splash,
only stillness,
as if the world had blinked.

Later, we found nothing,
no hole,
no echo.
Just rocks,
moss,
and a flower that had turned to face the wall.

Someone sealed it with concrete,
saying it was safer that way.
But the wind still stops there,
and the leaves tremble for no reason.

No one walks close now,
and the flower never blooms,
but it never dies.

She Turns the Wheel

She stands alone.
Not lost.
Just unlooked at.

The colors on her skirt are not for beauty.
They are days.
Wounds that healed uneven.
Moments that stayed
because no one else remembered them.

She holds the wheel gently.
Not to control it,
but to keep it from falling.
Inside it, pieces.
Books, maybe,
or voices she never forgot.
She stores them without order.
Nothing about grief is tidy.

Above her, a heart.
Cut clean.
A moon behind it
that doesn’t light the way,
but stays.
That is all it ever did. Stay.

A parrot waits on a branch
that isn’t growing anymore.
The snake curls,
not to threaten,
but because it doesn’t know another shape.

And then, the fruit.
Bright.
Absurd.
Alive.
A world where apples smiled back
and bananas leaned close to listen.
She once lived there
before she learned the weight
of being asked to be quiet
when she had so much to say.

This is not art.
This is survival.
Painted gently
because harshness breaks
what is already delicate.

She is not turning the wheel to go back.
She is turning it
because forward
is the only direction
she was never afraid of.

I’ve always loved drawing. It’s a form of meditation for me and has now become a way for me to find peace and sanity when my world gets too overwhelming, which, as a single mom with a neuro-divergent teen, happens quite often. When it does, I follow John Muir’s quote, “Off into the woods I go to loose my mind and find my soul.”
The results of those trips are  sketches of the forests around me and photos. I work from the photos to create my watercolors and intaglio prints. I hope you enjoy them and can find a place in your home to adopt one or more.
