The Last Oracle
They sealed her mouth with silence long ago, but silence is not absence.
It lingers. It hums beneath the skin of time.
Once, she lay beneath red velvet, her body a scripture no one learned to read.
Bones wrapped in whispers, fingers curled as if still holding a truth too heavy to give.
They called her mad. Or holy. Or both. It depends who you ask. It always does.
She spoke of storms that had not yet formed, and of kings who had not yet fallen.
Of veiled fires rising in sleep, of betrayals from those who wear clean hands.
And when the temple cracked, when the sky bled, they remembered her eyes.
Too late.
Now the wind moves the petals scattered near her ribs.
The air remembers. The soil remembers.
But the living forget what doesn’t serve them.
And so they walk on bones.
What she said still waits.
In the smoke. In the rustle of dying leaves.
Not gone. Just listening.

Whisper of Spring
Under old leaves, soft and deep,
a flower wakes from winter sleep.
No grand bloom, no trumpet call,
just light and life, so small, so tall.
Red-veined leaves in quiet spread,
white buds nod above their bed.
The forest watches, still and wide,
as spring steps in with quiet pride.

Resilience in Bloom
Amid deep red petals, I see the struggle
and the tenderness of survival.
Each leaf is a quiet reminder
of nature's persistent courage.
The flower grows despite storms
and stands firm in the face of hardship.
Its colors tell of scars and healing,
each line a soft testament
to endurance and grace.
In the quiet strength of each bloom
there is a promise:
to rise, to change, to be beautifully whole.

I’ve always loved drawing. It’s a form of meditation for me and has now become a way for me to find peace and sanity when my world gets too overwhelming, which, as a single mom with a neuro-divergent teen, happens quite often. When it does, I follow John Muir’s quote, “Off into the woods I go to loose my mind and find my soul.”
The results of those trips are sketches of the forests around me and photos. I work from the photos to create my watercolors and intaglio prints. I hope you enjoy them and can find a place in your home to adopt one or more.

Matt Guntrip is a guitarist, song writer and indie musician from the UK. He has published four albums & five singles via CD Baby, available on most channels. He was a nominated solo artist on the New Music Generator Show, Cambridge 105FM.
Through creative writing he explores themes of nature, time, love, loss, rejection, injustice and hope, with a view to learning, improving and thus to writing better songs.
