No going back

 

No moment is ever returned,
no change given, no refunds.

The silver slips through fingers
or is woven into gold cloth.

Time flows, a river of moments
to a sea of seconds, ocean of always.

We run or lurch, drag our feet, crawl,
or we walk with faces lifted to the sky

from that first unconscious moment;
the eternal renewal, advancement, recurrence,
once in motion can never be halted,

and even that first helpless,
screaming cry of refusal
falls on deaf ears.
