Measure (Poetry Month #14)

All we have is measured so it may fit and be fit. As a child stood against a wall as if height was growing up. As a teenage boy admiration at the size of others who got less bullied, it seemed. As a man balance my learning and experience against what an employer requests and my family’s needs. Bosses measure you against their profits. Family’s gauge you by what you give. Once an advert advertised a product as the measure of a man. Am I but a product?

A Timely

forest of keys to ideas
inside your head
sometimes sodden

swell too much
won’t fit the lock
to grains of thought

need to be held
over an inspiration fire

to dry and harden

unlock passages between
tumblered thoughts, harvest
nourishment

The Grateful (Poetry Month #13)

tears slip down her reddened cheeks
wash his dusty feet. She unsandals him.

Drops from an expensive perfume bottle splash
in her palms she massages him heel to toe,

unbraids her long hair, moves it over his refreshed
skin until dry. Her resurrected brother watches.

Very pleased that “My Strangers” has been published in Literati Magazine. Thankyou Renee S.

Pleased (Poetry Month #12)

at your smile 😊, at your touch, at the naughty glint in your eyes, at your laughter a welcome over your threshold into your home of surprises and gifts, challenges and adventures, steep cliffs, rough ground and a peak reached.
