you catch my eye
with your dark green head,
white collar, curly black
tail feathers, and soft wheeze.
Is that a Russian accent?
See my subtle plumage,
modest light and dark brown speckles,
forgive my loud belly laugh.
Let us nest in hollow trees,
eschew window boxes,
roof gardens, high ledges
that will challenge the fledgling
faith of our little ones
as they journey to water.
Share my bread,
my handsome drake.
